Hello, my name is Laura and I’m the manager here at Chapel House Day Nursery.
I have worked in childcare since 1996, I hold a BA Honours degree in Early Childhood Studies and have achieved the Early Years Professional Status. I have been managing nurseries since 2002 and I am passionate about childcare. I believe that childcare practitioners have a duty to make sure that they help every child to achieve their full potential, and I fully support my staff team to ensure that we do this.
I have 2 children of my own which I believe gives me the ability to fully understand parents' needs and help support them through their child's transition into nursery. Here at Chapel House we provide a warm and welcoming environment, and create a 'home from home' feel for both our parents and children. We have a wonderful and enthusiastic staff team, many of whom have been with us for many years, providing a stable environment for all.
In my time here I have had the pleasure of watching our children grow, strive and achieve - all the while doing what they do best – learning through play!
We occupy a beautiful, refurbished nursery in West Norwood, with a huge garden and outdoor play space.
It’s hard to find a day nursery in West Norwood - or indeed anywhere in South London - with wonderful and extensive facilities for both indoor and outdoor play. Situated in nearly an acre of beautiful grounds, grassy areas and hard standing play space, and surrounded by trees, our West Norwood nursery has both. Chapel House boasts four fantastic spacious rooms for the children to move around and explore freely. We have a calming and stimulating baby room which accommodates children aged from 3 months old - perfect for your baby to start taking their first steps into a world of discovery. We have a delightful toddler room for children aged from 15 months. A high spirited room for children aged from 2 years old and a fabulous, captivating pre – school room for children aged from 3 years old. Each room has it's own individual leader whose role it is to direct the learning for all children and, along with the team, fully support the children in their growth and development.
We also have a huge, wonderful garden space where the children can explore freely with their friends and find creepy crawlies - and we’ve included lots of information about all of our facilities on our Our Nursery page, and lots of photos of our children at play throughout our website. Thank you to our parents for giving us permission to share these photos.
Our philosophy and childcare practice
We explain our philosophy and approach to childcare in detail on our Caring For Your Child page. I think that this is particularly important, as not every West Norwood nursery operates in the same way. We explain our ‘Key Person Approach’ and how this enables us to know both you and your child really well – and better meet your child’s needs. We also explain how our nursery and outdoor environments contribute to your child’s development with us.
Here at Chapel House we have a great partnership with parents – working very closely to ensure that we are meeting their needs. I believe in creating a warm, caring and friendly environment, where children and families feel cared for and valued - and where they can feel ‘at home’. As our children’s primary educators, the relationships we build with parents are as important as our relationships with their children. These relationships help children to feel safe and secure - leaving them free to immerse themselves in play and enjoy their time at nursery.
We’ve included as much useful information as possible here on our website. You’ll find much of it on our Parent Information page. I believe we’re the only West Norwood nursery to open from 7.30am – 6.00pm, Monday – Friday for 51 weeks of the year (we close during Christmas week), and offer a variety of sessions to meet most family’s individual needs - at competitive prices. We also offer FREE childcare places for 2, 3 and 4 year old children, and include free nappies and wipes and nutritious ‘home cooked’ lunches and teas – the details of which are all explained on our Parent Information page.
